A Few Words About Us

Rediscovering love for Krishna.

Albert Einstein once said, “In the west, they have built a beautiful ship, within it has all the comforts, but one thing it doesn’t have is a compass.” Martin Luther King propounded the same thought by saying that the irony of our times is that we have guided missiles but unguided men. Despite the many technological advancements we have today that promise to make our lives comfortable, we see that the only progress we have created is a higher level of stress and anxiety in life. In 1970, a Vaishnava saint, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada foresaw this condition of the human civilization and gave solutions to it through his extensive literature on Vedic wisdom, some of which are now famous as Bhagavad Gita As It Is, Srimad Bhagavatam, etc. He said that the current human life is like that of thirsty deer trapped in the desert. The deer illusioned by mirage sees water in the desert and keeps pursuing it only to die due to exhaustion ultimately.

Similarly, we have been illusioned to see happiness in wine, sex, wealth, fame, position, and other material comforts of life. Illusioned by these, we keep running whole life sometimes after high paying jobs, sometimes after the love of our life or sometimes after intoxications without realizing that even those who have achieved it all have not been able to reach happiness. But what if the deer knew differentiating between actual water and mirage? Could it have saved its life?

Folk was formed with a vision to empower the youth by facilitating them to practice the sacred principles of Bhagavad Gita in their daily lives and help them see the reality as it is. To help them differentiate between mirage and real water. These invaluable principles of spirituality have been taken from the Vedas, Upanishads, Vedanta-Sutras, Puranas, and other Vedic texts through the literary works of Srila Prabhupada who comes from the disciplic succession of the guru parampara starting from Lord Krishna himself in the lineage of Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Sampradaya. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says that He reveals this transcendental knowledge only to his devotees and friends. FOLK helps individuals to rediscover their love for Krishna by engaging them in services. And only when the mind is fully engaged in the service of Krishna, it can be truly conquered. In Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says, “For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the greatest friend, but for one who has failed to do so, his mind will be the greatest enemy.” Once the mind becomes our friend, only then can we perceive the real nature of things and act in full knowledge.
